  How to: Configure / install Kworld 300u  dvb linux ubuntu 10.04

Watch tv kworld 300u in linux - I made this because now one else had a decent FULL how to.
I am running UBUNTU 10.04

Grab a cup of coffee and lets begin: DONT PLUNG IN YOUR USB 300u stick yet!!


After the switch over in USA to Digital TV -- the only way kworld will work in ubuntu is as a dvb device!

Installing Mercurial is a fast, lightweight Source Control Management system

 System -> Administration-> synamptic package manager

Search for Mercurial - this gives your the hg 
command in ubuntu - 
install whats in green (click apply --> on host settings for mercurial
click forward)

Installing the latest development V4L driver  - Must be done in terminal command prompt

1. Load up a terminal window if you are in the graphic interface.

2. Type in the following to install gcc, mercurial and the kernel headers:

sudo apt-get install build-essential git-core linux-headers-`uname -r`

You may be asked for your password with the above commands, type it in and press Enter.
(*type yes to install pacakges)

3. Move to the /usr/src/ folder with:

cd /usr/src

4. Download the latest V4L drivers with:

sudo hg clone http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb

5. Move into the newly created folder with

cd v4l-dvb

5a) sudo make

5b) Dont worry the make command will error on  error will happen on make -- >

  After error move to the folder /usr/src/v4l-dvb  and use Gedit fix the error -- change =m to =n on FIREDTV

 sudo gedit v4l/.config 


*YOU MUST CHANGE the line of code on : 

CONFIG_DVB_FIREDTV=m to CONFIG_DVB_FIREDTV=n 
to (you need to make it have an =n on config_dvb_firedtv
5C)once your CORRECT the =n you need to save file in gedit : 

CONFIG_DVB_FIREDTV=n

  

6. Now start the building process again :  make command once more  will take around 10min to run:

sudo make 

7. Finally we install the V4l drivers with:

sudo make install







BOOKMARK THIS PAGE AND REBOOT!

8. Reboot your computer and the newer V4L drivers will be used.

AFTER REBOOT! 

Install Digitial Video Broadcasting (DVB) applications Synaptic


System -> Administration->synaptic package manager

Search for DVB --  install the apps in green - > once they have been clicked hit apply
Install dvb-apps

Next download DVB - DRIVERs
Search for DVB-Driver --  install the apps in green - > once they have been clicked hit apply
 

  Download V4l-conf

PLUG IN USB STICK /w antenna !
Open a terminal again ->




From terminal

lsusb

From terminal

sudo modprobe em28xx

From terminal

sudo dmesg | grep -i dvb 

Type:  This app v4l-conf wil check and verifty your card is pluged in and describes your driver

v4l-conf

Applications -> Sounds Video -> Kaffeine


Configure Kaffeine Television Options:
 

   DEVICE1 SOURCE us-atsc-center freq:




Click--> Update scan data over Internet

Configure Kaffeine FOR source ! us-atsc-center freq:




Configure Kaffeine Channles - Television --> Channles -

Television --> Channles -> START SCAN --

Hit scan -- then MAKE SURE YOU ADD -> ADD SELECTED after scan

Now highlight all the chnanles and click add selected to add  Channles to your channles list ... ADD Selected.
